Has anyone noticed that we seem to have entered an era of doublespeak? It seems that we are totally bombarded by it in all things political. We are told that more than 90% of Planned Parenthood's business is abortions, when it is really less than 10%, We are told that oil has nothing to do with starting the Iraq war, when it was almost the entire reason. We are told that the schools are failing because they are not doing what they should with the money, when in fact we are doing a poor job because they don't get adequate funding. We are told that cutting taxes to the wealthy will increase business and thus increase tax revenues, when in fact that doesn't turn into a better economy but rather is taking so much money out of the economy that it is destroying the country. We are told that the price of gasoline is going up because of a shortage in oil when in fact we are at a time of a great glut of oil - there are oil tankers lined up out at sea without having a way to off load it because there is far too much oil to meet the market. We are told that the middle east is driving up the price of oil because it is the biggest supplier of oil, when in fact they only provide about 18% of the oil, our biggest supplier is Canada.
I could make a list of thousands of items. This business of doublespeak is the reality of all political conversations today - and they all seem to go right on by without being noticed by the public. Not only do we get doublespeak on almost everything, but when they get caught and have to confess to the lies, that makes no difference. The impact of doublespeak is so strong that following up with truth and facts has little or not impact upon the original message.
We are stuck, there doesn't seem to be a way for us to get together and demand the truth and punish politicians for lying to us. How much of this insanity are we going to be willing to take? It looks like we are quite willing to destroy our entire culture, economy and country in our inability to sort out doublespeak from truth. Not only is this happening on the economic front, but we are selling out our freedoms, privacy and rights to the same insistence of believing in what we want rather than what is.
A common discussion over my life time has been pointing out that Rome finally fell. We wondered how this could possible happen to a rich and powerful country, one that sort of had some democracy and freedom. Well, it looks like we are getting an upfront view of that process. It seems that most Americans are cheering on the destruction of our country and economy so that the rich in the world can profit from our resources and wealth. It isn't the rich in other countries because the rich no longer have connections to countries - they are global in scope and independent of any countries. They are a bunch of hyenas circling the wounded, taking nips and bites until they bring down all of the nations of the world.
